Day Opportunity Support Worker Band 3 (Full Time)

Job Summary

The Support Worker will be a member of the team, assisting in the assessment, planning, implementing and evaluating the provision of care of Service Users with learning disabilities. Support worker also will support the service users in developing their confidence, independence and meaningful social connections. They will also provide safe, inclusive and person centred environment where service users can take part in range of activities designed to promote wellbeing, life skills, community involvement and personal development.

Duties and Responsibilities

Service Delivery

  • Delivering Person Centred Support
  • Assisting in the assessment of needs and support.
  • Helping in the planning of care using person centred planning
  • Implementation of care for individuals and as a client group, using the person centred approach
  • To work in partnership with the service users and their families, to ensure their needs are met
  • To ensure all service users are cared for as individuals
  • To work with parents and carers as partners and stakeholders
  • To work in partnership with other agencies to ensure a high quality, seamless service for the service users.
  • To offer a range of activities to the service users.
  • To provide a service which is integrated and involved in the community
  • To use knowledge of the care of service users with a learning disability and challenging behaviour to provide a quality service.
  • To ensure information, related to service user, is shared appropriately
  • To demonstrate flexibility in responding to the needs of the service by participating in a variety of shifts as required.
  • To help create a homely atmosphere

Safety

  • Ensure a safe working environment for service users, staff and visitors
  • Ensure all relevant legislation, policy procedures and guidelines are adhered to
  • To demonstrate a willingness to participate in appropriate training.
  • Support the health and well-being of the service users who avail of the service.
  • Use the resources available to deliver a high quality service
  • Ensure record keeping meets the required standards including legislation, policies and procedures
  • Contribute to the financial procedures as required
  • To assist in the maintenance of the building, furniture and fittings
  • Liaison with Support Services to ensure good quality housekeeping and catering services
  • Adhere to Fire Regulations
  • Report to management as required verbally and in writing.
  • Ensure Data is protected as per legislation
  • To promote a positive image of the Sonas Support.

  • To assist in evaluating the care of service users, using person centered approach
  • To help to continually monitor, evaluate and improve the quality and standards of the services

Development

  • Fully participate in personal supervision and support
  • To attend and contribute to staff meetings
  • To ensure yourself and other members of staff are treated with respect and valued equally
  • To contribute to an environment where the team can develop effectively as a group and individually
  • Share skills, knowledge and experience with team members and colleagues

Essential Criteria Qualifications and experience

  • 5 GCSE including English or An NVQ Level 2 or above in Health and social care or equivalent.
  • Previous experience working in a social care is desirable but not essential; full training will be provided.
  • Previous experience of working with children/adults with learning disabilities and challenging behaviours
  • Ability to cope with and help to manage challenging behaviour.
  • Good understanding of care plans and the ability to implement them effectively
  • Proficiency in English, with excellent communication skills both verbally and written
  • Basic IT skills for maintaining records and documentation
  • Strong interpersonal skills, patience, and empathy are essential for building trusting relationships with clients
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team in a caring environment

Desirable Criteria

  • Valid Driving License
